The difference between a room that feels professionally designed and one that feels “almost there” often comes down to scale. One of our rules of thumb at IBB is using 22” pillows on most sofas and accent chairs. While there are certainly occasions where a smaller size is appropriate, we find that properly scaled pillows create a more tailored, luxurious look. It’s a simple detail, but scale has a tremendous impact on how a room feels. When pillows are too small, they can get visually lost within the furnishings and diminish the overall design. When the scale is right, everything feels more intentional, polished, and inviting. We believe great design is found in the details—and scale is one of the details that matters most. What design detail do you think makes the biggest impact in a room?

Less can be more. One of the most common styling mistakes we see is filling every surface with lots of small accessories. While each piece may be beautiful on its own, too many can create visual clutter and compete for attention.Instead, think bigger. A few larger accessories create stronger focal points, feel more intentional, and give a room a sense of refinement and sophistication.Great design isn’t about adding more. It’s about knowing what to leave out.We believe beautiful homes feel curated, not crowded.

🎥 DESIGNER CONFESSIONS: Our Design Nightmares 😱Every designer has that one thing that makes them cringe. So we asked a few members of our team to share theirs...🎨 “Art hung too high.”If your artwork is floating halfway to the ceiling, we need to talk. Art should be enjoyed and appreciated at eye level, and it should feel connected to the furnishings below it—not hovering above them.🤯 “Design by committee.”Mom has an opinion. Your sister has an opinion. Your best friend has an opinion. Before long, everyone is designing the house except the people who actually live there.🚧 “Hiring a designer too late in the process.”One of the biggest mistakes we see. By the time we’re brought in, selections have been made, opportunities have been missed, and sometimes costly changes are needed to get the design back on track.⏳ “Clients who can’t make decisions.”We promise we’re here to guide you! But at some point, progress requires a choice. A beautiful home comes together one decision at a time.Tell us your design nightmare in the comments. We can’t wait to hear them. 👇😂

SPLURGE 💸 or SAVE 💰?If you’ve ever wondered how designers decide where to splurge and where to save... this one’s for you.@designershay and @jory.gattis are breaking down some of their favorite high-low design strategies and sharing where we believe your investment makes the biggest difference. The goal isn’t to cut corners. It’s to allocate your budget intentionally so the overall home feels complete, layered, and beautifully designed.Now... did we struggle a little when it came time to identify the “save” categories? Possibly. 🤣 After all, we do this because we genuinely love beautiful things.Watch along for practical advice, a few laughs, and proof that even designers find themselves asking, “Wait… where are we saving again?” 😂

We talk a lot about wellness these days.Exercise.Nutrition.Hydration.But what about the environment where you spend 7–8 hours every night?Research continues to show the connection between our surroundings and our overall well-being. A calming, thoughtfully designed bedroom can help reduce stress, support better sleep, and contribute to improved mental and physical health.Your bedroom should feel like a retreat.Soft lighting. Luxurious bedding. Beautiful materials. Functional storage. The modern conveniences that make everyday life feel just a little easier.Beautiful design isn’t just about aesthetics. It’s about creating spaces that support your well-being, restore your spirit, and help you recharge from the demands of everyday life.Because your bedroom may be the most important wellness space in your home. 🤍

A beautifully designed room is never just about the furnishings. It’s the layering of accessories that creates warmth, refinement, balance, and soul. The finishing details are what transform a space from simply furnished to truly elevated. ✨Here are 3 styling principles we use regularly at IBB:1) ✨Permanent botanicals bring life, softness & movement.A room should always feel alive. Permanent florals and greenery introduce an organic element that softens hard surfaces, adds texture, and creates a sense of effortless elegance year-round. Whether it’s orchids, olive branches, or sculptural greenery, botanicals instantly make a space feel more polished and inviting.2) ✨Proper lamp scale changes the entire feel of a room.We typically recommend lamps that are 30” tall or taller. Taller lamps help extend the eye upward, creating better visual balance and giving a room a more sophisticated sense of scale. Lamps that are too short can unintentionally make a space feel visually heavy or compressed.3) ✨Generously scaled pillows create a more luxurious look.Undersized pillows are one of the quickest ways to diminish the overall feel of a room. We often use 22” pillows on sofas and accent chairs because they create fullness, softness, and a more tailored, designer-level finish. The magic of a room is almost always found in the layers. 🤍Save this for your next styling refresh & follow along for more beautifully layered interiors, thoughtful details, and design insights from #teamIBB.

What started as a solo interior design business for my mom has grown into something beyond anything we could have ever imagined.Twenty-six years ago, I joined her professionally, and together we’ve spent decades building, evolving, creating, and dreaming alongside an incredible team. After my dad passed, my husband stepped in to help oversee the business and operations side of IBB, bringing structure and strategy to the creative vision that drives our company forward every day. And now, watching Jaylie step into the world of interior design and become part of the next generation makes it all even more meaningful. And through it all, one thing has never changed — we’ve always wanted IBB to feel personal. Not corporate. Not transactional. Personal.Family has always been at the heart of how we operate — not just within our own family, but within the culture of our company. Our team is family to us. And so are our clients. Many of the relationships we’ve built over the years extend far beyond design projects. We’ve celebrated milestones together, walked through seasons of life together, and had the honor of helping create homes that become the backdrop for our clients’ most meaningful memories. That sense of connection, loyalty, and genuine care is what makes IBB so special to us — and it’s the reason this business means so much after all these years. 🤍
