After studying Design at the Boston School of Fashion & Design, Joan MacDowell discovered her true passion in interior design. Over the past four decades, she has had the privilege of working and living in many parts of the country, each with its own architectural character and design influences. These experiences shape her approach to creating spaces that feel both timeless and deeply personal.
A lifelong traveler, Joan finds endless inspiration in the world’s diverse cultures and aesthetics. She freely admits to being a hopeless Anglophile, often dreaming of idyllic country houses and the refined charm of British interiors.
Joan is thrilled to join IBB Design Fine Furnishings as a designer and looks forward to collaborating with clients in the showroom. She’s especially excited to pair IBB’s extensive resources with her tailored, client-first process to bring beautiful, livable rooms to life.
She believes every home should reflect its owner’s personality, interests, and taste, infused with pieces that tell their story. As the great British designer Albert Hadley said, “I want my rooms to be lived in, not looked at.”
When she isn’t designing, you’ll find Joan in her art studio, immersed in her latest oil portrait—a creative pursuit born from her lifelong love of design and color. She and her husband are fortunate to have their children and grandchildren nearby, who bring endless joy and inspiration to her life.
